Winter Ensembles

Indoor Drumline

Ashley Starkston, Percussion Instructor
Jonathan Wudijono, Percussion Instructor

The John Champe Indoor Drumline is open to any student who is enrolled in the band program at JCHS. Students in the Indoor Drumline are expected to also be a member of the Marching Knights. If there are any circumstances that prevent this (playing a fall sport for example) then please communicate with the staff. The ensemble usually runs from late November until early April. Each year the group does a fully customized show and the ensemble includes both battery percussion (marching bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, and tenors) and front ensemble percussion (keyboard instruments, stationary battery, and rhythm section). Students who play wind instruments in the Marching Knights are encouraged to join and will learn the skills needed during the season – no prior percussion experience is required. The group is also always on the lookout for piano and bass guitar players. The group competes in the Atlantic Indoor Association which generally includes 4-5 local competitions and one trip to Championships at the end of the season. For more information please contact Mr. Foreman.
